I have to admit, Uncle Ran, I haven't been playing with my RanHolgas much, I struggled a little too much to get focus, so put them to one side while other things got in the way....anyway, one of the people I've been chatting to on redbubble.com mentioned that he was considering cutting up a vacuum hose to make his own bendy lens....so I sent him one of the lenses you made for me, so he could see how it was made.....unfortunately the one I sent was the one that was meant for closeup work, and he wasn't interested in that, so he got his brain working, and decided to play with a different style.....he bought a little plastic loupe, and fitted that inside the tubing....and all of a sudden, he had an amazing lens that worked a treat for portraits! journal for making matt's lens

And here's a link to some more images of Miss Bertie Page

Here are some of the images I shot with it....first time use, straight out of the cam....Canon 5D and Canon 5D Mk II

I used lensbaby composer, 24-105mm straight lens, 50mm and the bendy loupe lens for this shoot....needless to say I'm kinda taken with the bendy loupe images!!!

Seems the whole world is discovering the tricks of the secret world of Bending Grin with thumb

An Mel all your special Benders can be repurposed to work any way you want......we do like loupey optics .

The first Lensbaby used a loupey optic, that's why so many people fell in love with Bending in the first place.....of course Craig discovered what he considered sweeter optics, so Lensbaby Bending moved away from the softness of the loupey world, now there are double glass, single glass, plastics, pinhole, zone holers, as well as the Original "Loupey" one !

Then the Ta got all excited over Holga lenses, so we hacked up the Holga and Woca optics for a good Bender experience.

Now I've hacked every known type of optic on the planet and am searching the secondary market for antique lenses of any sort to become the next big thing YaY

The best thing about hacking your own is there's always something new to discover to image with......life is grand !

Thanks Ta and Ran! That's really interesting to know, Ran, I wasn't aware that the loupe was what started Craig off. I must admit I always tended to go back to LB Original, rather than 2 or 3. Composer has such a great ability to be reliable, and I have tried all the other optics that come with it, but this loupe lens has just blown me away! It seemed as though it was even easier to use than composer! Maybe I'm just naturally bent.....heh

Mel thanks for the kudos on RedBubble for making your MelHolga and the link here to aRtBending.com .

Also if those people that don't want to mess with making their own custom Benders, I have plenty of parts on hand to make really nice looking custom "Loupey" Benders . Obviously not as cheap as mentioned because I only sell the highest quality Bending parts, but as I told you they can be returned if the buyer is not totally satisfied with the results .

There is a lot of science to making these special Benders, but that should never stop anyone from making their own, as that's what Bending is all about......discovery !

Thanks again Ran, I'm always happy to pass on the kudos! I've been very lucky to have had such awesome help from so many! I know that my classes will always contain lessons in bendy lenses, and if it inspires others to have a go, then I'm happy. Same with my bendy work on redbubble and shutterbugs.biz. I've even had bendy work accepted for the silvershotz magazine 2009 folio! Pretty exciting stuff happening here at the mo smiling smiley
